IDEA
A Greek philosopher Plato looked
beyond Nature for a definition of Art. In his view even
the greatest work of art was only a shadow of the material
world, several times removed from reality. Physical beauty
for Plato depended on the harmony created by symmetry
and proportion. The contemplation of such ideal physical
beauty leads the viewer to a new kind of artistic truth
to be found in the realm of pure Idea. |
